Our new friend Sara inspired us to ASK BIG! So here it is!

OPERATION HOPE: As we have sought God’s heart, we find it more vast and more expansive than we ever dreamed. The depth of His love of us is without equal and without limit. He has big plans for His people and we are thrilled to be a part of it. We believe He has placed us here in Cape Town, the Mother City, to be a part of Him birthing something new into the earth. He is always doing a new thing.

WHO: We believe the first nation people of southern Africa, the Khoisan, to be a key component in God’s new thing. (Some believe they are the first nation people of the whole earth.) They are gate-keepers to the land, to the soil. As God draws us close to show us who we really are, we find that He is telling us we are both fully physical, people formed from the dust, and fully spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God. These gate keepers have a deeply spiritual way about them. Continue reading THE BIG ASK NEWS!

Big Plans Just Got Bigger!

We announced our vision for Kwelanga House and a tutoring centre in December. Remember? Since then, a bigger, Christian, non-profit organization, saw our vision and invited us to come under their umbrella. They are working on the other side of Cape Town; it’s called Boost Africa Foundation. They easily have 150 kids come each afternoon for tutoring. Continue reading Big Plans Just Got Bigger!

Oh Hey, We Joined YWAM

Where to begin? 2014 took us by surprise and sent us into a completely different direction, leaving very little free time. Although we had been contemplating this decision for over a year, the decision to attend happened within a week. On January 6, Kevin and I started a Discipleship Training School at our local YWAM base. You know, Youth with a Mission. Why, you ask? We tried to answer that question here, but, to be honest, we felt ill-equipped to do what we are doing. Just how do you disciple someone? This is definitely throwing us into the deep end with lots of hands on training. It’s one thing to share clothing or food with someone, but it’s something completely different to be responsible for their spiritual training. That kind of unnerved us. Continue reading Oh Hey, We Joined YWAM

Real life with parents, Christina and Kevin
Happy 2014 to you!

The Israelites didn’t have the WordPress Jetpack analytics annual update, maybe that was their problem.

I just looked at the annual report from our website. I can see our most popular posts, most comments, and most searched words. You search for some strange things, people.

The State of South African Education

IMG_5355It started in 2010. We stepped off a plane on to the soil of South Africa.

It continues now, when we walk through the townships, when we see the education system failing so many kids.

We know a 17-year-old girl who is still in grade 7.

We know too many who will never matriculate, but will instead drop out at grade 10. Government rules don’t demand that a student finish anything past grade 10. Continue reading The State of South African Education

Oh, the Places We’ll Go…With a Van

$T2eC16JHJG8FGsp!d0dDBSCK6dCi0g~~48_20Many of you know we have been praying that God will provide a van for us here in South Africa. We totally believe He can do this. He’s done it before. For now, 6 of cram into our car, with someone sitting uncomfortably on the emergency brake. We are grateful for transportation.

When we get a van we will be able to: Continue reading Oh, the Places We’ll Go…With a Van
