THE BIG ASK NEWS!

Our new friend Sara inspired us to ASK BIG! So here it is!

OPERATION HOPE: As we have sought God’s heart, we find it more vast and more expansive than we ever dreamed. The depth of His love of us is without equal and without limit. He has big plans for His people and we are thrilled to be a part of it. We believe He has placed us here in Cape Town, the Mother City, to be a part of Him birthing something new into the earth. He is always doing a new thing.

WHO: We believe the first nation people of southern Africa, the Khoisan, to be a key component in God’s new thing. (Some believe they are the first nation people of the whole earth.) They are gate-keepers to the land, to the soil. As God draws us close to show us who we really are, we find that He is telling us we are both fully physical, people formed from the dust, and fully spiritual, made in the image and likeness of God. These gate keepers have a deeply spiritual way about them.

The reality of the Khoisan people is that the white settlers in Cape Town enslaved them and brought other slaves from Southeast Asia and northwest Africa to supplement them. The slave owners used some of the slave women and the slaves themselves intermarried creating the most diverse people on the planet, the Cape Coloured. The Cape Coloured is quite literally a mix of the Khoisan people and every other race on the planet. They are all of us put together.

WHY: Ocean View is a Cape Coloured community created by the former Apartheid government of South Africa. It is a living testimony of the pain and suffering of a people forced from their homes, their businesses, and their land. For decades, they have been caught between the whites and the blacks, reinforcing the belief that they aren’t good enough. They aren’t white enough to be a part of the privileged 15% of South Africa and they aren’t black enough to be a part of the majority, ruling race of the country. Ocean View is largely forgotten and abandoned. This is where over a million people pass by every year on the way to the Cape of Good Hope without a second glance.

People pass by because they don’t want to see what goes on here. The drug culture claims every single family. There is not one person who is not affected by drugs. The violence and gangs are at an all-time high with very little police presence.

It is our belief that Father has seen the plight of His children. He hasn’t forgotten them. He never left them. He never forsook them. He wants to bring healing and restoration to His people. He wants to return them to the position of honor that He created for them.

HOW: This is where He has called us “to proclaim good news to the poor…to bind up the broken-hearted, proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the LORD’s favor…to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve…to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the LORD for the display of His splendor. They will rebuild the ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the ruined cities that have been devastated for generations.” (Isaiah 61)

That is what we intend to do. We will speak hope and life into a place where those are some of the last words you’d use here. We will heal and restore. It is what we are doing now and God is calling us to extend our tent pegs, increase our scope.

We believe holistic healing is the first phase of this project. We believe he is leading us to buy a 1.33 acre piece of land in the heart of Ocean View.

It is the property where the community destroyed the three buildings and looted the building materials. Here we will be able to expand what the current Ocean View care centre is doing. (Click the link to watch the video of the land).

*Trauma, abuse and addictions counseling,

*social work, social psychologists,

*employment training

*art therapy

*sustainable gardening and aquaponics

*and we would be able to expand the aromatouch therapy massage, inner healing, discipleship and tutoring work we are doing.

*God has already brought us all of these helpers!

This will be a place of inclusion where many ministries come together rather than working separate from each other. We foresee a Khoisan heritage site being built nearby in Ocean View and we may be able to put in a coffee shop and give space to artisans who want to sell to the tourists coming through.

WHEN:This land is for sale right now! Asking price: $160,000.

Please pray. Do you know a business or organization that would like to invest in a holistic healing and reconcilaion centre in a community who holds a key to the restoration of South Africa?

Eventually, a school and a thriving business community. That is phase 2!

We can’t do this alone. No way. Not us. We have already had several teams interested in coming to help. We feel that God is moving us from a temporary place (like shipping containers) to a permanent place. We want to establish a team base. One that will carry on this work even if we leave. One where teams can come to stay, to work, to love and to rest. A place where training and teaching can take place. A place for community.

Guys, we have found something of a gem. Right down the road from Ocean View we found a piece of land that has not just one but TWO houses on the property. TWO houses. Each house has 3 bedrooms. It is in solid condition. With the exception of painting over the giant Bob Marley head on the wall, it’s in good shape. It will need a bit of construction work, but not too much. That’s what teams are for, isn’t it?

It also has a swimming pool, a braai area, garage and two storage sheds.

What would we do with TWO houses?

A) host teams who come to visit and help in Ocean View.

b) be a temporary safe house for women who need to get away from a violent situation quickly.

c) a home for us to train people and establish community.

This property is for sale for R3,000,000 or $232,000. The owner is entertaining cash offers and we need to move quickly. If you know of anyone who would like to invest in this possibility, please let us know! Free accomodation when you come to Cape Town!

Here’s the BIG ASK: To buy the land in Ocean View, and the two houses for a team base, we will need $392,000. With taxes and imporvements on the house, let’s make it $400,000.

Yes, we will need that much to start this whole process. It is so wildly impossible for us on our own. But, we don’t have this vision for our sake. We beleive this vision is for the reconcilation and restoration of some of the most beautiful people in the world. For them to hold their head high and take their place with purpose and identity when they see the mountains that faith in God can move. LET’S DO THIS!!

They will rebuild ancient ruins and restore the places long devastated; they will renew the  the ruined cities that have been devasted for generations. Isaiah 61:4
